Eric Rowley

Posted on January 10, 2020

Those of you who knew him will be saddened by the news that Eric Rowley died on December 31st 2019.

Eric joined the Hiltons shoe company in 1949, and by the time of the Olivers takeover in 1981 he had risen to the position of Administration Director.

In many ways he was closer to both the shop managers, scattered throughout the country, and to the shareholders, than were the family members who worked in the business.

Luckily, the property side of the shoe business remained outside the takeover, and Eric became a Director and Company Secretary of Glenstone, where he ran the administrative aspects of the business for a number of years until taking a well-earned retirement.

He will be remembered as an ultra-loyal member of the business, who always put people first.

There is to be a Thanksgiving Service at 2pm on Friday 7th February 2020 at St Cuthberts Church, Great Glen (near Leicester) for his life. Tea afterwards at the Methodist schoolroom in Great Glen.
